OAKLAND — Less than one week after the draft the Yankees signed their first pick, Eric Jagielo, to a $1,839,4000 bonus yesterday.

Jagielo, the 26th pick in the draft, is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound, left-handed hitting third baseman from Notre Dame who will likely start his professional career with short-season A-ball Brooklyn (NY-Penn League). The bonus is under the assigned value of the pick.

The Yankees also gave Tyler Wade, a shortstop from Murrieta Valley (Cal.) High School taken in the fourth round, $371,000. That matches the assigned value of the pick.

Also inked yesterday was David Palladino, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound right-hander from Emerson, N.J., via Howard College in Texas. He was taken in the fifth round. Johnny Murphy, a shortstop from Sacred Heart University selected in the sixth round, also signed.

Pitcher Ian Clarkin from James Madison High School in San Diego taken with the 33rd pick, will undergo a physical Monday and is expected to sign next week. Outfielder Brandon Thomas, taken in the eighth round out of Georgia Tech, took a physical yesterday.
